Glenfield/Marlin Model 25

He carved some small animals into the stock Anyway, he did me a big favor doing some work for me lately and would not accept payment for it. I know he likes the 25, but had mentioned he would like to get another stock for it and that the trigger was heavy. I had his wife sneak me the 25 out. I am changing the scope and rings, lightening and smoothing out the trigger, and would like to get a stock for it.

I am having no luck what so ever finding a stock. I have checked Numrich, Midway, Boyds, Ebay, Gunbroker, etc. I can't find anything. Is there anything made for these? Is there anything close that I could work with and make work? Any help would be appreciated.

Last edited by twpayne75; at If you look at the newer Marlin bolt guns, you will see that they carry on most of the design traits of the G Rcvr, bolt, barrel, safety, clip are pretty much in same locations as on the old So broaden your search by looking at aftermarket stocks for the newer models that so closely resemble the Those can be adapted with some minor whittling.

Another option is to get a nice hunk of walnut and start from scratch. If his woodworking dad is still around, maybe you can even get him involved!

Here are a couple examples from this forum: Bob4BVM View Public Profile Find all posts by Bob4BVM. Originally Posted by Bob4BVM.

Another option would be to watch the auctions for an inexpensive 25 and scavenge the stock to use on your buddies gun. There always seem to be a few on GB but would probably cost a little more. There's a 25 stock on Ebay right now.

Sheesh, that is more than i paid for the whole gun back in the 70s! Just occurred to me, i still have my old 25 stock. You are welcome to have it, free, if you want to pay the postage.

It does bear my amateur attempt at checkering, from when i was a kid. But someone with decent checkering tools could clean it up pretty good i think. QUOTE] All the clip-fed Marlins are VERY similar in layout to the G If you look around, you might be able to find a stock from a Marlin bolt action rifle.

This is a fancy version of the Glenfield If you look around for that, you might come across a factory walnut stock. The G25 should bolt right into the stock with very little or no modificatons at all. Well, I'm getting the stock from Bob. From the pictures it looks servicable for what I want to do. I am going to build up the forend and flatten it out so it will ride a bag better. I am going to use a trick I learned a while back for the grip areas. It involves using fiberlass resin. You tape off around where you want stipling.

You paint on the fiberglass resin with a brush heavily. Then sprinkle sawdust into the resin. Allow it to set up, then lightly sand it. Then you can paint with a flat black textured paint. It turns out like Mcmillan texture Anyway, while I'm waiting on the stock I thought I would work on the trigger. I take the rifle apart.

I notice the arms on the reciever that hold the trigger and sear are bent. I think that somebody bent them knocking out the trigger pin at some point. So I take out the trigger and sear and bend the arms back into place.

I then look at the sear and think it's the nastiest looking thing I have ever seen. I'm thinking how could any manufacturer put such a thing into a rifle.

I start messing with the springs and see that the sear will no longer go back into the reciever. Now I know why the arms were bent. This is not the sear for this gun. Someone at some time took another sear and ground on it very poorly to make it fit in this gun. They had to bend the arms apart to get it in there. Guess they got tired of grinding on it. It's no wonder the trigger was horrible on this thing. It had to be about 10 pounds and felt like you were pulling it through a box of gravels.

So now I am waiting on a new trigger and sear from Numrich. Luckily they had them.

I have a feeling that by the time I get done with this I would have been better off buying him a new rifle of his choice. Originally Posted by twpayne I'm actually wondering how his Dad's carving looked Big Shrek View Public Profile Find all posts by Big Shrek.
